DID YOU KNOW?

Approximately 1/3 of the food produced for human consumption is lost post harvest to our plate at home. Food is lost or wasted due to a lack of farm and supply chain resources, storage and market opportunities - while at home - consumers often over purchase, discard ingredients due to confusing date labels, or might not know what to do with the “extra’s piling up in their refrigerator.

Food loss and waste occur every day as 3.1 billion people in the world face food insecurity and a lack of access to fresh, healthy. Food in landfills affects the health of our planet, contributing 8-10% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The Sustainable Development Goals offer a clear course to bridge these gaps affected people and planet. Centered around SDG 2: Ending hunger and SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production, the Every Plate Counts campaign is an opportunity to save food from waste for everyone, everywhere.

2.3 billion people are food insecure around the world.

Globally, more than 1 billion meals are thrown away every single day.
